| Hi, I know this is quite a common problem because i've done some digging around and have found numerous topics on this but i've tried all the solutions propsed and nothing seems to remedy the problem. I've managed to install the software on my web space but whenever I load up the site i get the infamous "Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: blah blah blah. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file." error message. I've tried changing the chmod properties on both config files to 444/400 etc but every time i do they reset themselves back to 644. I've managed to get them to 600 but thats as far as i can go. I remember having this issue with the standard oscommerce 2.2 release and found a fix that involved removing the error message from the header or index file (i can't remember which), is it possible to do this with Oscmax? Any help would be gladly appreciated. Thanks James |

| James, You need to find out the proper way to change the permissions on your server and use that method. FTP is the preferred method but you may require SSH to do it. Or you can simply contact your host and have them change the permissions for you. You can remove the error message, just as in standard osCommerce, but that is really the wrong way to do it, as it leaves your site wide open to hacking. The error is there for a reason. It is insecure and dangerous to ignore or remove it.

| You may want to try a different ftp program. Some have problems with chmodding. I suggest filezilla...

| Okay just downloaded and tried Filezilla but its still doing the same. Everytime i change the settings they automatically go back to what they were before (644) |
