Default install without errors but on first launch 'cant connect to'

    Hi guys

I've been an oscommerce'er for years but only now stumbled onto oscMax... exciting stuff!

However when I install, all is well... db test connect successful, write to configs successfull but when previewing the site i get:

    Warning: mysql_connect(): Unknown MySQL Server Host ' dedi118c.your-server.co.za' (1) in /usr/www/users/digitaqv/mystore/includes/functions/database.php on line 19
Unable to connect to database server!

On both front and admin ends

I've checked the configs and theyre 100%..

Verry odd, any ideas? I'd really like to test the package.

    tx in advance

Default RE: install without errors but on first launch

Is the mysql server on the same machine as your shop? If so, use 'localhost'. If not, make sure your hostname has remote access permissions. You can also try using the IP of the remote mysql server instead of its hostname.

If not, I am assuming you changed the actual server name in your post here for security reasons, as that hostname does not respond to pings.

    Default

The mysql server is on the same machine as the shop yes. It's our own server on which I successfully installed 2 instances of oscomm ms2.2 earlier today to do some testing. All was fine.

I just changed the oscmax db path to localhost (this works on a standard oscomm install) but without any luck.

    Verry odd.

    Any ideas?

And yeap I did change the actual server name for security reasons.

    Thanks!

    Default

When you changed it to localhost in the configure.php file, do you get the same error? How about with the IP address?

Make sure you are using the correct username and password as well. If there is extra whitespace after the password, this can also cause it to fail
