Standard install, then enable SSL - once again read the http://wiki.oscdox.com/oscmax_docs.

    Exclamation Re: Admin Login

I have a choice of 2 document roots:
    /webspace/httpdocs
    /webspace/httpsdocs

as I can not upload to:
    /webspace

    I chose:
    /webspace/httpdocs
& did a 'standard' install as you suggested.

    Install completed ...same result though!

How about trying a different (low cost/free) host? That's a pretty strange way to structure the server files (unless it's an alias/soft link). There are a number of UK-based hosting provider with cPanel hosting. This would allow you to gain experience, prior to tackling you main provider's eccentricities.
    Just a thought...

Thanks for the suggestion. Been with this host 10 years & have multiple domain/websites setup. Prefer to stay with the devil I know.

Spoke to them last night & they confirm the correct placing is:
    /webspace/httpsdocs/MYDOMAIN/catalog

    http://MYDOMAIN.com/catalog/install/index.php
    works fine & report says:

    Server Capabilities
    PHP Version 5.2.9
    PHP Settings
    register_globals On-yes
    magic_quotes Off-yes
    file_uploads On-yes
    session.auto_start Off-yes
    session.use_trans_sid On-no
    PHP Extensions
    MySQL -yes
    GD -yes
    cURL -yes
    OpenSSL -yes

However, now the database won't load (it did several times yesterday but I uninstalled/reinstalled -no tables now) & I get error:

    'Unknown MySQL server host'

Believe me, I have read/reread the documentation. Scanned the forums & spent 3 hours on transatlantic phone calls!

Is there a PHP file I can check to see if configuration is loading. I have installed php several times before & manually edited config pages.
    (eg Listmessenger, Mail Machine...)

    Help is appreciated....

Just going to check something ...

You have set up the database prior to install haven't you?

Also make sure you have read the wiki article ...

    Regards,

Seriously, installing 'Max is simple (as it's just the same as osC) and takes me about 10 mins., start to finish - haven't timed it.

"session.use_trans_sid On-no" may be of consequence.

During install, say no to SSL.
Get the thing up and running, then change configure.php to use SSL.

I didn't suggest you move provider, just remove the blinkers.

To be fair ...I am a Newbie ...& I installed this on Wampserver in less than 5 minutes.

...after another 2 hour trans-Atlantic phonecall we resolved the issue. Something to do with the hosts server having a problem. osCmax now installed.
