Hi, there - I am new to osCMax but, having used osCommerce for a few years now, I love it. The only thing that is vexing me is why, when a product is created, its thumbnail can't be clicked to enlarge. Yes, I know. Dynamic MoPics. Believe me, I've spent the last hour or so combing through these very forums looking for an answer to my question, and seen a lot posted about MoPics and so forth. What I'm NOT seeing is what I should do if I just have one picture for a product, and I want it to be clickable-to-enlarge. The MoPics documentation seems like a LOT of hoops to jump through for this one, simple thing, but at the same time, I canNOT find an answer. So, although I'm sure as soon as I post this I'll find the elusive post on this forum that has my answer, here is my question, officially: In this installation: http://www.paleeye.com/ -- why don't the base thumbnails have the Click to Enlarge feature (or something similar), and do I really have to spend hours learning the ins-and-outs of MoPics in order to get this to work? Sub-question: I'm designing this site for a client; he's adding the products while I work on the design. Is there a way he needs to configure the image filenames, even if he only has one? I've seen how much confusion MoPics has caused already, so I don't feel TOO stupid asking this...

I am not sure why, but I had to manually upload the images into the images_big/ directory. The "click to enlarge" magically appeared.

If you want click to enlarge then that is right. widget.gif in images directory and ftp your larger images as widget.gif etc. to images_big directory

Funky. OK. Well, at least I wasn't missing something glaringly obvious (I hope). I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

Same problem! I have a copy in the images folder which is loaded by OSC when entering a new product. I ftp'ed the larger images to the /images_big but nothing. I tried appending the _{a} as discribed in the documentation but this does not work either?

Okay - a short lesson in Dynamic MoPics. FTP your large image to the images_big folder. When you add your product, add the thumbnail in the appropriate field (this will automatically store the thumbnail in the images folder). It doesn't help to FTP the thumbnail to the images folder when you upload the larger image - it MUST be associated with the product somehow. Also, these images must be named the same thing! To avoid confusion, I make my large images .jpg and my thumbnails .gif. If you have mulitple images, FTP all of the large images to the images_big folder, and FTP all of the thumbnails EXCEPT the main one to the thumbs folder. Then, when you create your product, associate the main thumbnail with it, using the appropriate field. As for the naming conventions using multiple images, leave the default settings in the admin panel for MoPics alone, but IGNORE THEM. Name your images image_1.gif, image_2.gif, image_3.gif, and so on. It'll work. Trust me, I'm a professional. :P

This is not a mod. THis is one of the ugliest hacks I've seen in a long time. Phew Must write something like MoBetterPics if I find time.

then add exact same image, same name, via FTP to images/images_big In Admin/configuration/images Title Value Action Small Image Width 200 Small Image Height Heading Image Width 57 Heading Image Height Subcategory Image Width 100 Subcategory Image Height Calculate Image Size true Image Required false 200 width reduced image size for product page didnt distort because I left out any value for Small Image Height so only one image was needed to create both thumb and just under it click to enlarge automatically appears creating a pop up image of original large image size There is nmo need to FTP more than anything than the original image into the images/images_big folder with same name as it was browsed for in add product calculate image must be set to true Image Required false just gives the option of not adding an image but it you add it its there too This to me is is not a hack - its highly flexible and easy to use Im using OscMAx v2.0 the AA Box version thanks Michael S once again - this program rocks! |

Really both are simple and not ugly hacks. I choose to size my own pics using multiple image resizer.net which is a great tool for resizing adding text etc. then smart ftp to upload. And I guarantee no distortion that way and have great flexibility for more and different pics. The previous post by mike works good as well. When we do not understand how things work it is easy to get frustrated and call it bad. I do it too
