bump for the necropost but i had the same problem with a twist which is why some people may be seeing a problem with the fix. I used the fix to copy the images folder but i found that i had to make sure that all images were named .jpg ie lower case as opposed to .JPG even if the original in /images was .JPG

Basically to work:

/images/picture.JPG

/images/images_big/picture.jpg

if i made it /images/images_big/picture.JPG it wouldn't work.

You can easily set dynamic mopics to use upper case .JPG by adding the upper case .JPG extension Big Image Types andThumbnail Image Types

Of course it is better to change all the extensions to lower case for consistency sake

I am having a similar issue with a client's site. They are adding products themselves via the admin area. There is only one image per product. In the image field this image goes into the /images directory correct? Some of the images are of non-square dimensions and thus not only get distorted but also are unable to be enlarged. After canvasing their images for them and ftp'ing them into the images_big directory it is working. This however doesn't allow them to add them on their own.

If the upload directory is changed to /images_big will thumbnails be created automatically? If so where is this setting? Also is there a way to automatically add expand the canvas to make the irregular image conform to the square dimension dictated by the "small image width".

Thank you,
Jim

Read the mopics documentation. You don't need the images_big directory at all, and according to the documentation, simply deleting that setting from the admin will allow standard osCommerce behavior.

osCommerce and osCMax - Neither has the ability to automatically create thumbnails without adding in an autothumbnailing mod.

If the actual image dimension/proportion do not match the sizes you have set in the admin, just set one dimension in the admin, either height or width but not both, and leave the other blank. It will then resize to the correct proportions.
