    Default ERROR_FILE_NOT_WRITEABLE for my Home and Information Pages

    Hi. I've installed OscMax v.2, setup the template etc but I've run into a problem I can't seem to resolve. I have look all over the v.2 forum but to no avail so wondered if anyone could help. Once this is nailed I can go and setup the shop!

    When I go to the Admin/Catalogue and click on either Define Main Page, Privacy Page, Conditions Page or Shipping page I get an error in a red bar at the top of the screen which sates ERROR_FILE_NOT_WRITEABLE.

    I am unable to make any changes and thus can not change the homepage text or the other key text in those areas.

    The site is www.purdicehome.co.uk fyi.

    Thanks,
    Ash

    Hi. Just noticed when I click on the save button in the editor when trying to change the text in the home or other pages the following error comes up. This was from the home page:-

    Warning: fopen(/hsphere/local/home/purdiceh/purdicehome.co.uk/includes/languages/english/mainpage.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /hsphere/local/home/purdiceh/purdicehome.co.uk/admin/define_mainpage.php on line 54

    Warning: fwrite(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /hsphere/local/home/purdiceh/purdicehome.co.uk/admin/define_mainpage.php on line 56

    Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /hsphere/local/home/purdiceh/purdicehome.co.uk/admin/define_mainpage.php on line 57

    Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /hsphere/local/home/purdiceh/purdicehome.co.uk/admin/define_mainpage.php:54) in /hsphere/local/home/purdiceh/purdicehome.co.uk/admin/includes/functions/general.php on line 85

    Was worried it was all to do with chmod but the category description seems to write ok so not sure why the homepage is playing up.

    Thanks,
    Ash

    Check you CHMOD permissions on includes/languages/english/mainpage.php should be 744 or 644.

    Thanks for the advice but still got the same error.

    I changed the chmods on all of the below (first line first, then first and second, then first and second and third) and the error at the bottom still keeps rearing its ugly head.

    * /purdicehome.co.uk/includes/languages/english/mainpage.php from 644 to 744
    * /purdicehome.co.uk/admin/define_mainpage.php from 644 to 744
    * /purdicehome.co.uk/admin/includes/functions/general.php from from 644 to 744
    note they we all set at 644 when I first checked so I've not changed them to 644 then to 744, just changed FROM 644 to 744

    Still says - ERROR_FILE_NOT_WRITEABLE above the editor and when I enter text and click on the save button a new white screen opens with the following:-

    Warning: fopen(/hsphere/local/home/purdiceh/purdicehome.co.uk/includes/languages/english/mainpage.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /hsphere/local/home/purdiceh/purdicehome.co.uk/admin/define_mainpage.php on line 54

    Warning: fwrite(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /hsphere/local/home/purdiceh/purdicehome.co.uk/admin/define_mainpage.php on line 56

    Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /hsphere/local/home/purdiceh/purdicehome.co.uk/admin/define_mainpage.php on line 57

    Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /hsphere/local/home/purdiceh/purdicehome.co.uk/admin/define_mainpage.php:54) in /hsphere/local/home/purdiceh/purdicehome.co.uk/admin/includes/functions/general.php on line 85

    If anyone can offer any advice would be much appreciated.

    Many thanks,
    Ashley

    Not yet had a chance to check all of the files as jpf suggested.

    Did wonder if our host bans alterations to files for some reason as changing the CHMOD as suggested didn't help... but this is probably totally inaccurate!

    I did in the end find a more manual way to solve the problem. If you edit the certain files you can change the content directly without using the editor. FYI I altered /includes/languages/english/mainpage.php, privacy_content.php, shipping_content.php and conditions_content.php to circumvent the problem and put the text I wanted up on the site.

    I'm not computer illiterate but I've never done anything like this before - it's easy enough for me to make these changes but I suppose some may be totally stumped.

    Hope that helps you anyway. If not, shout and I'll try to be of as much use as I can!

    Your problem is the permissions.

    The files need CHMOD 777, Not CHMOD 744...

    Dear Michael:

    Thank you for your response. The mainpage file in includes/lanquage/english was at 777 and it did not work so I changed to 644 per this thread. Do all the files involved have to be 777 like conditons.php,shipping.php etc?

    Thanks

    Never mind I changed the shipping_content.php as well as mainpage to 777 and it works beautifully. Thanks much again!!
