Default configure.php error message

Just installed and followed the directions exactly. I can get to the admin and the front page but I am still getting the nasty red error on the front page of the store "I am able to write to the configuration file: /catalog/includes/configure.php". I have checked the properties on this file three times and Im beyond sure that it is set to 644. I even changed it to 777 and then back to 644 just to be sure. Is there a refresh or a time limit or something that I need to do. Please let me know if there is a secret code Im missing somewhere. Any help appreciated.

Default RE: set it to 444 and the error is gone

Yes,

Some server configs require tighter permissions security. 444 is fine and will not cause any problems. I actually recommend it for all setups once you have everything configured.
