Default newbie question from oldie, unforgivable!

Hi

Can anyone tell me if the database backup in the admin side is a full backup including structure, or is it only a data backup?

Sorry, I have never had to use it as I backup using control panel, but as I am changing over to v2 I dont want to mess up my existing shop whilst I try to prepare the contents of my source database to match the new one.

Hi there!
I'm not sure about how the admin backup works, but I find PHPmyadmin to be the easiest way to back up. I think most versions of CPanel have it. If you're running your own server, its easy to install.

All you have to do is choose your database on the left of PHPmyadmin, click on the 'Export' tab at the top and choose your options. You can choose to keep structure and data or just the data. I believe the default setting is to save structure as well as your data.

HTH~
Sarah

Hi

Yes thanks. What I eventually did was go through the 2 databases and compare them and updated the structure of the old one manually. Then table by table I used PHPmyadmin to fill up the new database. Laborious, but it works! All except one thing.... Even though I have added my categories, they do not show up on the site even in admin. I know the products are there, cos I put them there, but the categories are not showing, so therefore no products are showing. Aaaarrggg, back to the drawing board.

The backup feature in the admin is a FULL SQL dump file - including table setup etc...

No need to use phpMyAdmin - simular function...but more confusing for the newbie....
