Thumbnails images not appearing, big images do appear

I have an osCmax store that was working fine for months. Now, new product image thumbnails cannot be seen, but the images in the images_big folder are viewable.

Both images/thumbs and images/big are chmod 777 and I've also tried 775. Each new thumbnail is chmod 600 while each new big image is chmod 644.

The only way I can get the new thumbnails to view on the front end is to go into my FTP program and CHMOD the files manually.

Has anyone else run into this issue or know of a resolution? The site is also hosted on Go Daddy if that helps.

Some servers will automatically block anything set to 777 due to the security risk.

What are you manually CHMODing the file to so they work?

Are you actually running v2.5 or v2.0.25? Do you have an URL for your store we can see to check image paths.

I was using 2.0.25 when this issue originally occurred. I upgraded last week to 2.5 and the issue is still there.

I am now manually CHMODing the files so they work, but this has not always been needed.

Again, the /images/images_big folder seems to work properly, but not /images/thumbs

Both folders have always had the same permissions set, and now currently it is set at (777). Previously, they have been set at 705 and 755.

No directory should be 777 in a secure webserver environment and 705 is a nonsensical permission set (unlike 750).
Generally, 755 for directories and 644 for files is normal, with more restrictive permissions used in more secure environments, as per the wiki. If this doesn't work, for whatever reason, then contact your hosting provider - that is what you pay them for!

You also seem to have SSL turned on for your images ... also the slimbox code is broken ... Have you been tinkering with the code (or someone done it for you)?

I have the same problem at www.affableaardvark.com I have made sure the images directories are all 755 and regenerate missing images produces a 500 error. Some of the Thumbs are showing.
Please can someone point me in the right direction.
The server is set to fastcgi and the last part of the error log is below.

Update Working
The large image directory was "s-i" and this did not appear in thumbs/ . When I made a directory of the same name in thumbs/ and resized the images using irfanview it worked.
