[osCmax V2.0.25] What is the best way to duplicate this site with latest stable oscmax

Hi,

This site is quite old now but has had some updates for security and pho 5.3 etc but now is the time to bring it into the 21st Century.

Assuming the look is to be much the same, what is the best way to do this update or upgrade depending on your perspective

There are a few mods but not that many I am told.

My method:

• Create a 'fresh' site.
• Export products, customers, orders and associated database tables.
• Import to new site.
• Match up the configuration, shipping and payment details from the old site.
• Test.
• Copy over your own template directory. (A good idea to do a compare with newer fallback, to pick up any changes.)
• Test again.

This way there is less chance of bringing over stale and potentially corrupt data. The downside is that any contributions will need reapplied but at least with a clean installation and the benefit of hindsight it should be smoother. It will give an opportunity to check for any conflicts. Also, some contributions may not be required, given the newer feature set.

All done without touching the existing live site, until ready to replace it. The only part that needs to be redone is the database table migration - a simple/quick task in comparison to the rest.

Note: if you're adept at these sort of things, then it's possible to have a scripted part for the second step. It sure makes doing migrations/upgrades easier.
