osCmax install Issues

i to all! Newbie at this but i am trying!
I purchased the OscMax Install manual, but I am finding some dead ends very early on...
INSTALL STEP 3 has me upload the oscmax ZIP file to my site.
Okay, then it wants me to run a Database Wizard. Huh?

First, there is no Database Wizard to use. And is that zip file magically going to unzip itself? I am confused. I can create a Database in MySql via my host control panel, but that does not seem to be what the manual wants me to do. I am really new to this so I don't want to mess up and i did put down my $30 of hard earned money, but the pretty pictures seem o be missing some pretty words to go along with them.

HELP! is it me (its OK if it is) or is the book missing a page or two?

Thanks! That extra bit of info did the trick.
I am fully operational, I have played with the ADMIN section, but now I have new issues...

I went to CATALOG ...Define Main Page and placed a new line of text in the main box. I clicked on SAVE and now I get a black screen when I go to mysite.com/catalog/index.php

Yes, I am tired at this point but I cannot figure out what I have done wrong. Even if I am in the admin and I go to the Products page and click on the CATALOG link in the upper right, I get a blank page. It seems that I can no longer enter the store...even though I could originally until i changed the MAIN PAGE in the editor.

I added two products into the system. If I CLOSE my bowser and go to 'mysite.com/catalog, the main page will come up. However, as soon as I click on anything else, i get a blank screen and cannot return to any page with content...all blank screens until I close the browser and start again.

When I do get the main page, I only get the info boxes on the LEFT...nothing else.

Tested on MAC, same thing as on PC...all links return black page and cannot return without closing browser.
Tried to change permissions in configure files to 444, but no change. Changed them back to 644.

Strange that it all worked perfectly until I attempted to modify the DEFINE MAIN PAGE in the editor. It all went bad after that.

Undo your changes in define mainpage. Logical next step. Perhaps post the exact changes you made?

All I did was wipe what was in the wysiwig screen and insert some text...probably the wrong thing to do. Maybe a better idea is to reload that main page file...and I would if you can tell me where that file is...

If you are getting a white screen, that = php error. You need to check your error logs for what the problem is. It will be spelled out there pretty clearly. You are looking for anything that indicates a php fatal error in the logs.

Also, did you change any other admin settings?

Can you please tell me where the Error Log is?
