OSCMAX Displays a White Screen - Skype & Wamp Conflict - The Solution

Apologies if everyone else knows this but it led to many happy hours of frustration sitting in front of a blank white screen and losing faith.

If you have Skype running it can disable Wamp, the localhost recommended in the OSCMax Wiki. Both try to use the same server port and if Skype is there first OSCMax will fail and display a blank screen. Fresh installs will fail. This can be really puzzling if you close down Skype temporarily for some reason, OSCMax will suddenly start working. The OSCMAX session will continue OK but if you close it and try to come back to OSCMAX - a white screen and less hair.

The solution ... either start Wamp first - a workround - or, in Skype go to Tools, Advanced, Connection and uncheck the 'Use port 80' box, save, restart Skype and everything should be fine.

Hardly recommended, in my case positively discouraged! Use a proper server. If you use a toy, expect to get problems. A 'server' with Skype is not a server at all.

I dare say that you're not alone, though.

This has prompted me to investigate LAMP in a VM on my laptop. Not a server environment but a side project.
