[osCmax v2.5x] Upgrading to 2.5 Beta2

If we have already installed Beta 1 and upgraded the database etc what do we need to do to go to Beta 2. Can we just replace files or do we need to go thru the whole installation again from scratch?

Option 1: You have made no changes to code. Wholesale replace everything (make sure you don't overwrite configure.php in the admin or the catalog includes directory)
Option 2: You have made changes o code
a) get beyond compare or another code comparison tool
b) find the code you changed and hand edit any changes you made to the new code if that has changed, otherwise use you changed code
c) upgrade all changed code that doesn't over write your changes

Option 1 is easy. Option 2 more complex. In both cases you have to make sure that there have been no changes to the database and hand change the DB if there were.

Not too complex if you haven't made many mods.

You can not just upload the beta 2 files...

Did you re-run the installer? There are database changes, so the installer needs to be re-run to start with a fresh database. If you want to upgrade an existing test store, you will need to run a patch on your database - not yet released, coming in the changes-only package.
