    Default Hangs on Step 2

I'm trying to do an install and it hangs on "Testing Database Connection". I've gone back and forth trying to figure out what the problem is, and I'm at a loss. I did see the sticky, but my long arrays were already on. I also tried moving my php.ini to the catalog and to admin, though I haven't had to do that with any of my OSCommerce sites. I do know that I had to set all of my variables for my other sites in php.ini, because my server won't allow an override with .htaccess. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

Wow...no replies...ah well. I thought I'd post an update. I never figured out the problem, but I am sure it was settings on my server. I had just changed host companies, and I still have my old account active. So I tried to upload and run the install file on the old server. Of course, it ran flawlessly. Afterwards, I downloaded the entire package, corrected my config files, uploaded to my new server, and corrected permissions...and everything seems to be working fine. I am still testing it, but so far the only thing I've found is one button that won't display (on UPS Boxes Used -- the Batch Delete button), and I'll track that down later.

    kreitzig,

Hi there - glad to hear you now have things working ... I think the lack of response might have been due to the rather open ended nature of the question. As I am sure you are aware server config settings are notoriously difficult to track down! We would need to know PHP version, osCmax version, host provider, the list goes on ...

Are you installing v2.5? If so, we are very keen to hear if you have any problems with the package (now you have it up and running!) ... please post any bugs you might find into the BugTracker so we can get them fixed pre-launch.

    Regards,
    pgmarshall

    Regards,
True enough. I wasn't sure what information would be needed, and didn't want to post a flood of unnecessary. I kinda thought someone would give me an idea of what type of inromation was needed or let me know that they'd heard of something similar. I did try to check threads first, but didn't see anything similar. Anyway, I am looking at the current stable release, I believe that is 2.0.25, because I am wanting to evaluate it for moving my websites to it. I am currently using a heavily modified copy of OSCommerce, but I'm hoping I won't need to modify OSCmax as much. I guess we'll see. So far it seems cleaner.

If you are considering migrating ... it may be worth looking at v2.5 which is currently in alpha.

You can see a short list of what is in the new version over and above v2.0.25 in the wiki.

Might be worth a look as most of the widely used modules are pre-installed for you.

I'll do that. By the way, any idea when 2.5 will be fully released? I've been skimming the forums, but all I can tell is...soon.

The timescale is shortened by members of the community trying out 2.5 and providing feedback. How long is a piece of string?
