Michael - given the amount of times you login to other people's servers and install osCmax for them you should offer hosting services ... What! You do already!!

Everyone please consider your hosting provider carefully - rather than trying to install your new ecommerce ventures on ultra-cheap hosting (even though it works fine) why not give aabox.com a go (Michael's hosting) - they have some perfectly reasonable packages ($6.99 pm) and I can guarantee that osCmax works on their servers and they also have a support desk who can walk you through installation (or even do it for you) ... Why not pick the hosting service provided by the author of the software package?

Or you could use RidexBuilders services - EJSolutions - if you need maintenance/hosting plan or custom work done.

Anyway that is just my 2ps worth.

    Regards,

    Thank you Michael.
I was shown the error of my ways!
I wasn't setting the directories to 777 just the configure.php files.
I tried installing on a different domain and finally I can use this great shopping cart software.
I really appreciate the assistance from Michael!

met00's post ( Admin Problem) was extremely helpful, but I'd like to add one tidbit..
    7 ) chmod 777 ../httpdocs [required because I don't use catalog subdirectory]
When running in /catalog (or other named subdirectory: /store /shop etc) that instruction should state:
    7 ) chmod 777 /catalog/
once I did that beside the other directions I was able to change the admin folder name, finish the install 100% and log into the admin.. voila..

ANY webserver that requires 777 permissions on public html files hasn't been setup correctly. Period.

oh and once the install is complete both configure.php files should be downloaded back to your local copies in case of a restore situation
