Templates/Skins

This is a discussion on Templates/Skins within the osCmax v2 Installation issues forums, part of the osCmax v2.0 Forums category; I was wondering if Templates/Skins developed for V2.0.x would work for the new V2.5.x? Is there anything in the Wiki ...

    Default Templates/Skins

I was wondering if Templates/Skins developed for V2.0.x would work for the new V2.5.x?

Is there anything in the Wiki about the CSS file and what values control what fields so that at least the base template can be colorized? Might I suggest some sort of color picker for V3 that would allow this thru the admin panel.

In prinicipal - yes. However, you will need to make sure that any new content developed for v2.5 is created in the new template. Give it a go and see what breaks ...

    No not really. See below.

what values control what fields so that at least the base template can be colorized?
Simply get hold of a copy Firefox with Firebug Addon - installed. Roll over an item you want to edit and hey presto you get the .css to edit. You can even edit it in the browser to see what it would like prior to make the hard coded changes.

Might I suggest some sort of color picker for V3 that would allow this thru the admin panel.
This has been discussed but due to the dynamic nature of it (you can change the colours whenever you want) it was discarded because this would involve the .css being rebuilt for every pageload and hence reloaded by the browser which would dramatically slow down the store as the page could not be cached by your browser.

Have a look at fallback in v2.5 - it is not a bad starting point. A few small tweak to a few styles and the odd graphical change you should have a reasonably good looking store!

As long as you don't use Dreamweaver to screw it up!

I am not familiar enough with the file structure and inner handelings of OSCMax but I have been doing this for many many years with my site plus allowing the ability to custom upload all images (buttons, smilies, etc) with no preformance hits. In fact we removed these items from our DB and flat filed everything and had a preformance gain. This is on a site that takes in excess of 60,000 page views per month.

Thank you for the info and suggestion on customizing the site. It is unfortunate that templates for OSCMax are few and far between (the only limitation of the software). Even the ones on this site seem to have been removed.

I think you will find that the number of templates available rises when the code base has been stabalised for the v2.5 release ...

Also a good deal of the templating has now been moved to admin control (admittedly not the colours - but that is an easy change) - for example, horizontal scroller x-sell, left and right column control, index and product info control, list/grid switching with persistent user selection, sort order changes etc.

Actually the template issuer who used to make them said there was no point for them to do it anymore since it was too easy for people to do it themselves!!

I am not sure that osCmax works the same way as your current site - there is no .css or images in the dbase it is all in the stylesheet and image folders. The issue we faced with controlling colours dynamically was the non-cachability of the stylesheet. If you know of a way round this - then I would be very interested to hear it as being able to switch the colour would be a great feature!

    Anyway
