Help or Best hosting for high-traffic OSC site?

A client of mine just moved their hosting to a new cloud server. They are experiencing slow performance and proxy errors on the GET command in index.php.

First, does anyone know what is causing this? Maybe some tuning issue on the new host?

Second, the client has over 6000 products and a good amount of traffic to the site. Who are the high performance hosts these days for high traffic oscommere sites?

I do find it strange when people decide to start their own VPS/dedicated server hosting, without a good solid grounding in IT (specifically server management).
Might it be an idea to ask the supplier of the server services for some support? Even with my experience/qualifications, I do occasionally refer to mine for assistance - though often resolve things m'self.
If the Cloud configuration is running slow with only 6000 products, then, yes, there is definitely something amiss - though as you pointed out the amount of traffic does have a considerable bearing on performance.
Proxy errors sound like a core issue, not related to the actual running of osCMax.
[In the background, "The Team" are looking at improving overall performance, particularly on the upcoming release of 'Max but if a server isn't configured/tuned correctly in the first place, then it is only a sticky plaster over a wound.]

A Google of: oscommerce get proxy error brings up a few results but it's only speculation without details of the error. Try with the actual error message, or a portion of it.
