How to edit my store from PC instead of server?

the osCMax installation manual recommends creating a file called "mystore" on my PC so changes can be made there before loading to the live site. I have done this and am trying to install it there but I can't make it install.

The problem is in order to install I need to point a browser to the installer file - this is fine when I point the browser to the installer file on the server, the installation wizard starts up fine; however when I point a browser to the installation file on my computer, it won't start the installation wizard, but instead gives me the option to save it or run, and when I hit run, it opens a web editing suite (dreamweaver).

Can anyone tell me how I can get the programme onto my PC so I can edit there before putting live please? Or am I going about this wrong in some way?

Did you install and configure Apache+PHP+mysql on your pc? Are they running? osCMax requires a webserver to run, so if you have not set this up, it will not work.

I followed the instructions, including renaming the config files but I couldn't set permissions as described. It didn't allow for a numerical entry, just grades, such as "full" and "modify". I set them to full, but when I put the url into my browser as prescribed instead of starting the install, the page just loads blank.

Any suggestions at all?

I don't see any thing telling you to change the permissions on that page in the WIKI.

Just download the 2.0.15 zip file and unpack into the wamp directory ... make sure XAMP is running ... and then open Firefox ... type localhost/catalog/install/ into the URL bar.

You should see the installer screen ...

The permissions modifications I mention are linked to from the wiki installation instruction pages. About 1/4 way down the page there is a sidenote indicated by a lightbulb that says "For osCMax 2.0.15, see the warning on the main installation page", which then links here: http://wiki.oscdox.com/installation The warning is at the bottom of the page.

Hi,
the permissions modifications was a bit of a red herring, I discovered that an internet programme called "Logmein" that is installed on my pc was interfering with my server. Other people have problems with Skype. As soon as I turned it off the page loaded the installer as it should have.
Aw man that has taken ages to sort out. Hope these posts save someone else some time!
