    Default Warnings on installation

I have a warning on my main page:

''I am able to write to the configuration file: /home/gagne/domains/gagneensante.com/public_html/catalog/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file.''

    How do I fix it?

"set the right user permissions on this file" - try setting as 444 in your File Manager.

If using an FTP Program in windows, do the following:

    1. navigate to the file by double clicking the directories /public_html, then catalog, then includes.

    2. right click on the "configuration.php" file, and depending on your FTP program you will see either "chmod" or "change permissions", or "properties", click this menu item.

    3. set the chmod, permissions, properties of the file to remove write access to everyone (user group and owner), remove execute access to (user group and owner), and remove read access from everyone BUT the Owner.

Since i see your path includes "public_html", it is likely your hosting on a cpanel server, in which case you can also do this using Cpanels file manager. There is a video tutorial on this located here!

    Did you read the instructions?

osCMax Installation Manual - osCMax - osCommerce Maximized

It clearly states to chmod the file or mark as "read only"

The file configure.php is in ready-only in my windows. I uploaded the file with FTP to catalog/includes/. The warning is still there.

In step 2 - I can't right click the file with the FTP program. I have to download the file first to change the properties.

    Any ideas?

It's irrelevant what the file is on your local PC.
Use FileZilla as your FTP file and you will be able to set permissions on the server files. Forget right-click in your current FTP client and go to the menu options instead (would be very surprised if you can't set permissions using ANY FTP client).
Alternatively login to your cPanel, File Manager and set the permissions there.

All kidding aside ridexbuilder is correct. Read your manual/help on your FTP client on setting permissions.

In Filezilla FTP client you righ click and get a drop down and the option for "file permissions". May vary with other clients/programs - but all should have the option some where.

FILE PERMISSION are based on the OS and the computer - often you can't move permissions from one to the other (incompatible).
