Trouble with main page display

I know this will be a simple fix, I am just to all of this.

I have my installation done, and when I click "http://yourstorename.com/catalog" everything displays perfectly, however, when I go to public view of http://www.yourstorename.com" I just get my list of index files on public display

That is because you don't have any index.* or default.* files in your main directory or in the ROOT of your domain.

You need an index.html or index.php

Or if you don't have or need a main website - install oscmax into your root directory and not catalog....put a redirector to catalog.... or one of several different options....

where do I place the index htm once created? isn't that the purpose of doing a "main page"

OSCMAX is very flexible - every business is NOT the same - thus not everyone is not a shopping site.

Like even this site - we are not a shopping site ..... This sites WELCOME page or default root page - does not show show the forums (http://www.oscmax.com/forums) is show a little about us and a bunch of links. We also run a osCMax store (The osCMax Store) - but that is not our main page ether.

It DEPEND on what you want to do! Maybe your a bloging site - and on the side you want to sell some promotional items - you would not want everyone to be greeted with - BUY BUY BUY... they would say BY BY!

If all you have and need is a shopping cart - install a redirector (which is what most people would do) or install your shop in the root and not a sub directory.

How would I set up a main page with information and a few links?

I am not sure what to name it or where to put it

I know how to create the page. I am not expressing myself correctly.

When I save the file as index.htm, or index.shtml and upload it, it seems to block the entire cart, (takes over the entire screen) I simply want it to sit inside the frame of the shopping cart, so I assume I am loading it into the wrong spot?

If you want to add content in to your shopping cart - this is added not in index.htm in your catalog directory - that would block it.... but use your mainpage editor.... The file is saved as mainpage.php in your language directories. You can edit that file with ANY html editor - as long as you put it into the same place and DON'T change the file name.

What your issue is that your domain does not have a default page (like an INDEX.HTML file) in the ROOT directory - your cart is installed in a DIRECTORY below that.

Create a index.html that has some kind of redirector (see above) or static link to your cart ---ie: to http://www.yoursite.com/catalog/index.php
