    Default Moving catalog to root

    I have done this before, but it was a brand new store, not one with 7000 items.. for reference I have reread: http://forums.oscommerce.com/index.php?showtopic=202620
    to make sure I ineed have all the bases covered!

    I have a little bit of a unique issue..

    The root of the site currently contains a working index.htm file

    The site currently contains a working /catalog oscommerce installation

    I have installed a second instance of osc (actually oscMax) fully configured it and tonight I have copied all the old customers, orders and set the whole thing up.. I have a little more work to do to the new install, then next week I want to move the new install to the root directory.

    For testing purposes, I was thinking I would find all instances of index.php in the NEW install, change the references to index2.php, upload. I coud then test the new install in it's new home without munging up what is currently working.

    Will this work the way I think it will???

    i don't know about your hosting but i can choose the file that opens first.

    if i choose index.html it always opens index.html no matter if there are index.htm or index.php files present

    this way i can test shops running beside a live site

    hum.. ok yea I guess maybe I am over thinking.. doing it with an .htaccess file?? exactly how do I word that so the idex.htm opens unless I specifically call the index.php in the browser?

    Oh wait.. I think I see it.. in the test oscMax directory .htaccess I see:

    ## If installed to the base home/root directory, uncomment the below code only:
    #RewriteEngine On
    #RewriteBase /
    #RewriteRule ^(.*)-p-(.*).html$ product_info.php?products_id=$2&%{QUERY_STRING}
    #RewriteRule ^(.*)-c-(.*).html$ index.php?cPath=$2&%{QUERY_STRING}
    #RewriteRule ^(.*)-m-(.*).html$ index.php?manufacturers_id=$2&%{QUERY_STRING}

    but I dont think thats what I want to change until it is live..

    Oh and I have "under maintanence" installed in the existing cart so shutting that shoud be easy.. I suppose I will need to go to my google webmaster tools and ask them to reindex.. also I think I should set up a perm redirect in cPanel?? Anything else I might be missing here?? I really need this to go as smooth as possible!
