Default DB error after install

Hi all, I am new to osCMax. I am trying this shop for the first time. I have used oscommerce 2.2. But from reading the available mods with osCMAX decided to try it. Now I am not a coder, but will follow instructions to a T. Here is the issue after doing a fresh install:

I get this error

Warning: mysql_connect(): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/usr/local/mysql-5.0/data/mysql.sock' (2) in /home/content/t/e/c/tecosamcom/html/tecostore/catalog/includes/functions/database.php on line 19
Unable to connect to database server!

I went to check the config file in admin/include/config file and found that there is no data for my sql db there.

I can manual place the info, but wondering if this is normal or did I do something wrong in the install?

I thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

How did you do the install? Did you put osCmax over osCommerce or did you do it from scratch? Did you use the install page?

Is it possible that you put in the wrg database server? I did that and received an error from mysql. I contacted my hosting company and found out it is supposed to be localhost.

Oh, sorry forgot to add, I need to add to my php.ini the following:

register_long_arrays = on

Then did the new install and all fine so far. Well starting to look at all the options now. I do greatly apreciate the help and effort given.

Its me again, with a new problem. I am getting this error on my page:

Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home/content/t/e/c/tecosamcom/html/tecostore/catalog/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file.
but I have change the permissions and have checked 4 times to make sure that permissions are set to 644, I have even tried 444. But cant get this error to go away. I have been searching the site and have as of yet not found any solutions. Any one with any info greatly aprreciated. Thanks again.

Go into application_top.php and at the bottom of the file, find and change:

define('WARN_CONFIG_WRITEABLE', 'true');

to

define('WARN_CONFIG_WRITEABLE', 'false');
