    I have the https path. I have the lock but the panel in the admin says “You are not protected by a secure SSL connection” Shared certificate from 1and1.com.

    Try this:

    osCommerce: 1and1 SSL Fix

    Make sure you modify both the catalog and admin application_top.php files. That should do it.

    1&1 has its own custom output, but the fix should allow osCMax to detect the output no matter what it is.
