Default Migrating from old oscommerce version?

Hi there,

One of our shops already runs on OSCMAX and since we're quite satisfied with it we are now planning to start using OSCMAX for our other shop.

That shop currently runs on an old modified oscommerce version from around august 2002.

How to best go about this business? Since this is a shop that contains thousands of products, customers and order information.

Seeing as how osc and oscmax have different db structures I don't think this will be all that easy. I've read through previous threads regarding importing osc dbs into oscmax and that basically confirmed my feelings. So hopefully there is another way.

Then I saw someone suggest the following: just export the customer and product data from the old db and import that into the oscmax db.

Would that work? Is this actually a better way?

I have no problems with configuring the rest of the admin again. That's not so much work and I can take a look at our other oscmax shop to make sure I set up everything correctly. But it is of the utmost importance that the products (attributes preferably too), customers and order data gets included in the new shop.

If you have other tips and/or suggestions please let me know.

Thanks a lot in advance!

There are a few threads here that detail this process, as it is quite a common question. You are right, it is not for the novice. You need to be familiar with how to manipulate mysql databases (or at least how to use several tools that can do it for you)

Here are a couple threads that can point you in the right direction:
Upgrading an old OSC pre MS1 to OscMax v2.
Transfer from OSC to OsCMax.
