Question PayPal SetUp

I have been looking on the forum for answers, but I can't find them.
I am so lost and PayPal is less than helpful.

What do I put and where do I find the information for these questions:

Enable PayPal IPN Module
Do you want to accept PayPal IPN payments?

True
False

I assume this one is True?

Move tax to total amount
Do you want to move the tax to the total amount? If true PayPal will allways show the total amount including tax. (needs Aggregate i.s.o. Per Item to function)

True
False

This is True.

E-Mail Address
The e-mail address to use for the PayPal IPN service
This would have to be my paypal email address right? The one I use to log in?

Transaction Currency
The currency to use for transactions

Selected Currency
Only USD
Only CAD
Only EUR
Only GBP
Only JPY

Payment Zone
If a zone is selected, only enable this payment method for that zone.
--none--Maine

OK, this is where I start to get confused. I live in Maine I have to charge people in Maine tax. Is this what they are getting at?

Set Preparing Order Status
Set the status of prepared orders made with this payment module to this value
default Delivered Pending Preparing [PayPal IPN] Processing Updated

I think Preparing [PayPal IPN]?

Set PayPal Acknowledged Order Status
Set the status of orders made with this payment module to this value
default Delivered Pending Preparing [PayPal IPN] Processing Updated

Again I think Preparing [PayPal IPN]?

Gateway Server
Use the testing (sandbox) or live gateway server for transactions?

Testing
Live

I understand sandbox and live update. But I can't seem to do either. creating a sandbox in paypal is crazy and tech assist NO HELP. Anyone know how to do both in English not paypal tech babble?

Transaction Type
Send individual items to PayPal or aggregate all as one total item?

Per Item
Aggregate

This means they check out 1 item at a time or the can pay for everything at once?

Page Style
The page style to use for the transaction procedure (defined at your PayPal Profile page)

I have NO idea?

Debug E-Mail Address
All parameters of an Invalid IPN notification will be sent to this email address if one is entered.

I have NO idea?

Sort order of display.
Sort order of display. Lowest is displayed first.

Does this just mean the sort by the items they are purchasing. $1 comes first and $100 item will go last on the list?

Enable Encrypted Web Payments
Do you want to enable Encrypted Web Payments?

True
False

PayPal tells me not to use this because they fail more often than not.

Your Private Key
The location of your Private Key to use for signing the data. (*.pem)

I have NO idea?

Your Public Certificate
The location of your Public Certificate to use for signing the data. (*.pem)

I have NO idea?

PayPals Public Certificate
The location of the PayPal Public Certificate for encrypting the data.

I have NO idea?

Your PayPal Public Certificate ID
The Certificate ID to use from your PayPal Encrypted Payment Settings Profile.

I have NO idea?

Working Directory
The working directory to use for temporary files. (trailing slash needed)

I have NO idea?

OpenSSL Location
The location of the openssl binary file.

I have NO idea?

Has anyone written a how to for this that I may have missed?
Help!

Hi Michael,

I am just seting up Paypal payments on my web site and have a couple of questions.

Your first link does help a lot and is a step by step guide on seting up paypal_ipn (I already had working normal paypal module, with the problem that if the customer does not return to the site from what I have seen, I will receive the payment, but the order will not be finished/stored on the DB/I won't receive any emails, so I won't have a clue on what they are paying for and stock will not be sutracted)

http://oscdox.com/index.php?op=modlo...aypalIpnOscmax

But, there is a point where it says:

Quote:
4.6 Implement fix discussed by Michael Sasek in http://oscdox.com/index.php?name=PNp...ewtopic&t=5579 to make sure PayPal returns to the correct page in your shopping cart.
Since that links to the old forums (now gone), could you give me a hint on what fix used to refer too? I have left the return URL empty on my Paypal profile.

Second question, you also give a second link to:

http://oscdox.com/index.php?op=modlo...e=PayPalIPNMac

Does this wiki entry refer to an older version of the paypal_ipn module maybe? The OSCMAX 1.7 version? I see they are talking about several configuration options that are nowhere to be seen on my admin section for the module.

Thanks!

The wiki is referring to the original paypal IPN module, which has since been updated to the official osCommerce module. Originally, there was no official Paypal IPN module, so osCMax used a version that was not very well supported. So, yes, the wiki is slightly outdated and should be updated.

I think that is no longer needed, as RC3 addressed the problem. No return url is needed in the Paypal module, as it sends that info to paypal when the customer submits the order.

Ok, yeah, I can confirm that it is going right back to yoursite.com/checkout_process.php without having to configure a return URL on Paypal.

(and I think my store is based on RC2)

You should update to RC3 as there are a couple of significant security holes in rc2 that are patched in the latest rc3... You may even want to grab the pre-release rc4 svn code from the SVN repostitory. Lots more security and feature fixes there too.

If I keep checking out the forums/bug tracker, shouldn't I be happy enough applying the security fixes myself? I have probably changed/customized/configured too much my installation to feel like doing it. Yeah, I could do it, but it would be crazy to try and do it on every RC... Once I have everything set up as I want, it will hopefully stay that way for at least 2-3 years except security patches.

If you are making manual patches to your code, that is good enough. That is the equivalent of keeping current.
