Default New customer email - coupon code not showing

When a new customer signs up for an account and they get the welcome email, they do not get the coupon code. I have set up the coupon code in the admin. Here's what the user sees in the email:

To use the coupon enter the following code during checkout.
Coupon Code:

Coupon code is blank. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I see there are two places to manage coupons, Admin > Vouchers/Coupons and Admin > Configiration. Do these two codes have to match? Are they related and work together somehow?

Thx,
C

You have to actually create a coupon, then you need to enter that coupon code in the Admin >> configuration section.

You may need to use the coupon ID # instead of the actual code though. Try that.

I've got the coupon created in the coupon admin. I've got the effective dates set. One thing I notice is when I leave the "Uses per Coupon" field blank for no limit, it defaults to "0" after I save the settings. Is the 0 somehow deactivting the coupon?

As far as using the coupon ID, where is that? I see a number in brackets in the coupon admin in the upper right, it reads like this:

[6] BMGNC10
Coupon Name :: New Customer Coupon
Coupon Amount :: 10.0000%
Start Date :: 01/14/2007
End Date :: 01/14/2010
Uses per Coupon :: 0
Uses per Customer :: 1
Valid Product List :: NONE
Valid Categories List :: NONE
Date Created :: 01/14/2007
Date Modified :: 01/14/2007

Is the [6] the coupon ID?

I just ran a test, and the coupon code should be what you enter, not the coupon id.

When I did the test, I got a coupon code in the welcome email:

Quote:
Dear test

We welcome you to Store Name.

You can now take part in the various services we have to offer you. Some of these services include:

Permanent Cart - Any products added to your online cart remain there until you remove them, or check them out.
Address Book - We can now deliver your products to another address other than yours! This is perfect to send birthday gifts direct to the birthday-person themselves.
Order History - View your history of purchases that you have made with us.
Products Reviews - Share your opinions on products with our other customers.

For help with any of our online services, please email the store-owner: your@email.com.

Note: This email address was given to us by one of our customers. If you did not signup to be a member, please send an email to your@email.com.
Thank you for shopping with us! We would like to welcome you with this special discount coupon.

To use the coupon enter the following code during checkout.
Coupon Code: tc11
The coupon code you should enter in your admin is BMGNC10

Right, that worked, thanks. So the welcome coupon has to match one of the coupons made with the coupon admin. makes sense.
