Newsletters and Product Notifications Questions

Hi I would like to know how to set up multiple types of newsletters for customers to subscribe to...In the customer account info, there is a link for unsubscribing and subscribing to newsletters. When I click on it, only 1 newsletter is listed with a radio button "General Newsletter". Is there a way to create more newsletter topics?

Also, how do I use the Product Notifications list that is with each customer? There is a radio button for the customer to select "Global Product Notifications" and then if a customer buys a product and selects it to be added to their product notifications list, then it is added. Well, is there a way to send an automated email or is there an additional contribution that is needed to make all this work?

So my questions are about the newsletters and product notifications...
