Default osCMax v2.0.4 ~ Missing Order??

    Hello osCMax Forum,

I hope I've started this thread in the right place as this is my very first post. I've been using the osCMax v2.0.4 version for the last year and a half and have encountered a couple of issues. One of which happened the other day with an order that never registered. I received the PayPal payment from a long time customer, but when I looked to find the order from the Orders link it wasn't there. I went to my Customer List and clicked on the name and Orders tab and I didn't see it that way either, for some reason it didn't register??

I contacted the company that's hosting the website and they have been extremely helpful with troubleshooting some issues in the past as my technical knowledge is very limited. They did 3 Test Purchases and all 3 did register. Showing when I click on the Orders link and when I click on the name from the Customer's List and then the Orders Tab. They also had no explanation as to why this one order did not register.

Several months ago I had 3 Customer's names mysteriously disappear from the list. They had no explanation for that issue either. Can a customer close his account from the website and thus removing his name from the Customer List??

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

    Thank You!!

More than likely the customer did not click the link to return to your site - Solution: Switch to PayPal IPN.

No - nothing should be deleted without you doing it.

If "mysterious" things happen the first thing I do is check my security ... Have you locked your admin using .htaccess, changed your admin directory name, check out the wiki for more info.

Thank You pgmarshall for the response, I appreciate it.

Regarding the missing order, I am already using PayPal IPN. This customer must have done something different, I did receive 2 additional orders since the missing order and both registered including the 3 test purchases.

Regarding the security I will change the admin directory name, I have not done that and will check with the company hosting the site on the .htaccess. If somebody was able to get in to the admin panel you'd think they would do more than delete a few names from the customer's list??

Yes - however, quite often they just want to steal client data and do not want you to know they have access ... more than likely you are fine but it worth checking.

Ask you host to check to see if there have been any new files uploaded in the past couple of months (assuming you haven't added any).

Change your passwords, add .htaccess to the admin folder and rename the admin folder. I am going to assume you have removed the filemanager already?

yes pgmarshall, the host company checked everything you have mentioned and all is good. That was my thought however, if somebody was able to get in to get customer info especially email addresses. I sent out an email to all customer's when I noticed the missing names asking if anybody has received any emails from anybody asking them to purchase from another site. I did get several responses from regular customers any they said no.

I have noticed a significent drop in sales this month however.

    Thank You again!!

I too have just had this happen for the first time on my site. Running 2.0.25. This customer had a previous 'Preparing [PayPall Standard]' order (invoice #161) that was never completed, and then this morning I received a note from PayPal that invoice #177 worth $X went though. I have no record of this invoice as active on the site, nor any other orders dated Mar 24 (only some Preparing from Mar 23) so far (its early). On the other hand I do not know how to retrieve/review orders by invoice number on the site...to date I've simply been seeing the numbers on the Customer Edit page.

I had not allowed (Localization - Orders Status) 'Public Status' for 'Preparing [PayPal Standard]' and was wondering if that might be part of the problem - I just allowed it now, but it may be too late for the missing order...

    Thanks,

    John :-#(#

OK, I now see that I was using PayPal Standard and not the IPN version - which I have now switched to (it's in the Payments Module listed as "Credit/Debit Card (via PayPal)", then I followed the directions as shown on the wiki http://wiki.oscdox.com/paypal_ipn#autoreturn_settings
(that went smoothly). So now I think I am OK...

Thanks for the WIKI, but a little suggestion - to mention that the module location for those of us who area bit too thick to figure it out quickly...

JRR, I'm not that technical savy, But I do get some Preparing [PayPal IPN] orders from time to time that go uncompleted. I am set up with PayPal IPN and not Standard.

I checked with my host company and their explanation was some customers go as far as signing into PayPal but for what ever reason do not complete the payment leaving the order in Preparing [PayPal IPN] status.

    Regards,
pgmarshall, Can I please ask what type of files you're referring too? This would have had to have been done from cPanel, not the osCMax shopping cart? I add around 30 - 40 new items to the inventory each month through the osCMax admin.

Without the risk of sounding paranoid and this be just a stretch of my imagination, but is it possible for somebody to do something saying they did manage to access osCMax or cPanel where orders coming through my site got diverted somewhere else?? I usually average around 10 orders a month, this month only 1 so far.

My host company assures me nothing has been hacked, but I get the feeling he is just trying to appease me without doing any serious checking which I offered to pay for??

When you create new products you are adding to the database and also adding the image files. Hackers know this and sometimes hide .php files in the images directories that give them access to your admin panel ... I would say it is very unlikely that if anyone does have access that they are having orders re-directed to a competitor.
