[osCmax V2.0.25] Please notify me of updates to the products I have selected below... What does this option do?

On checkout_success.php a customer is presented with a list of all the stuff they bought and a message that says, "Please notify me of updates to the products I have selected below."

If they tick the checkbox(es) and then click the "continue" button, just what exactly are they supposed to get notifications about?

When you send out product notifications for their particular product, they will get one. You determine what those notifications.

Thanks. I guess this feature isn't for everybody. I'm confused why would you send them out? What exactly are you notifying the customer about? Product recalls? Price changes? :-S

What is confusing about getting a customer's approval for you to email them about their product? You have the opt in if they check the box, and you can then send them follow-up emails specifically related to their product. It is a great opportunity to provide post-purchase value to the customer.

You may have a set of post-purchase newsletters for specific products that help them get the most out of that product, faq's about the product, etc.

Builds customer loyalty if done right.

Hey, the feature is there just waiting for a creative store owner to take advantage of.

Yep, it's like if someone bought "Exercise Machine 2000" then a few weeks later you, the store operator, get in new cushion handle bars for that particular machine now you can advertise to people who have that machine and temp them with buying the new accessories. The great thing is since the customer opts in for product notifications the customer WANTs to know about new accessories, model versions, or other news and and may possibly purchase those new said items. =)

But yeah, it's not for everyone.
