printer cartridge selector

Is there a mod somewhere in oscommerce that could be adapted to work like the printer cartridge selector on this site for example?

cartridgesave co uk/ink-cartridges.html (take out spaces and replace with .)

I've had one custom coded into oscmax but it is a nightmare when trying to update the cart as I don't have the coding skills myself and the developer kind of disappeared on me when the project was 90% done and didn't supply me with the code separately. I only have it on the development side.

I haven't been able to find anything that works well anywhere. The mod we have is pretty good but the developer was extremely unreliable and ultimately went missing.

I have thought about trying the osCommerce one, for one of my clients but really can't see a great advantage over using the standard Categories and Manufacturers provision. Combined with the Search facilities already in 'Max, I'm either missing something fundamental or it's just extra coding/maintenance for no benefit.
