    Default Fresh install article problems.

So I have a nice fresh install of osCMax and I can't make articles. When I go through the creations process I don't get any errors but when I get the page that says "For more information, please visit this articles web page." the link tot he webpage gives me a 404 error.

This I followed the instructions here (http://wiki.oscdox.com/adding_new_dynamic_content_pages) but I get a bank page (well, sorta, there more below)

This I went to make my own page by modifying a copy of the index page (commenting everything out but the template and includes lines, and I got the same damaged blank page. The page loads and has content but as soon as it gets to the main content box it stops abruptly. It doesn't even close out the body or anything it just stops, like there was an error in the PHP but there is no error message for me to work with.

The ideal solution would be to make my own pages using the template and nothing more, since these pages are not really part of the store and PHP driven. But being able to make any pages would be great.

This isn't the only problem with the fresh instal of osCMax, but currently the one thats bothering me the most. Anybody got any ideals?

Articles and that wiki document are two different things.
Create a Topic to put the Article in, go to Infobox Admin and turn on the Articles box. You should then see your new Topic/Article.
An Article without a topic remains hidden, allowing you to create independent pages that you can link to.
Within Admin, you can choose how to display Topics and Articles.
At least this is how I've seen it working.

Okay that good to know but there still is a problem, the article creator isn't working, even when I try to go directly to that page I get a 404, unless it has to be visible to exist or something, but that doesn't seem to make sense.

Go to my demo site and try it there...
Just created a New Topic/Article and a 'hidden' Article - works as described above.

Are you making up a Topic first? I am not sure 2.0.25 or below likes having articles in the "top" folder ...

Create a topic --> Then open that topic by clicking on the folder icon (left hand side) --> Create an article ... should work fine ... done it hundreds of times ...

I hope it hasn't changed in 2.1 - very handy having 'hidden' Articles.

I hadn't considered this quirk as a feature and I fixed it in the SVN r532.

Feel free to "unfix" - but perhaps we should add a bit of help commentary to the right hand column ...

    Regards,
Maybe a vote on if it should remain, with, as you say, some helpful text on right-hand-side.

If you want to hide an article, that is what the Published/Unpublished option is for.

Will need to test if an 'Unpublished' Article shows when referenced by a direct link. Otherwise, fine.
