    Question Gift Certificate/Shipping weight issue

I'm trying to sort a gift certificate setup for a customer (I even bought the $30 ebook hoping to find some guidance in there but didn't find anything useful in there)

I need to know exactly how a product needs to be configured to be a gift certificate, I have it set with the model GIFT_amount but I have read references on here that more is needed but cant find any meaningful instruction or help?????

Additionally, I am unable to get it to not charge shipping.. at checkout the USPS module shows the weight as 0.1lbs even if I set the product weight to 0

    Help would be appreciated

Just for general reference, items that have 0 weight are treated as virtual items (ie. you download the mp3 from the site) so oscmax is gonna treat that as a free ship item. But there is a way to get around that...

Possible that you have a tar weight or percentage for extra packaging set in admin? If so, your weight of 0 is not 0 it will have an addition to it.

Check to make sure that these settings are disabled or set to 0.

I setup gift cards using weight of 0 and works great. The sad part is that I don't have a way to keep track of them, other than creating an excel file with assigned numbers to the cards and have the customers have mandatory accounts before purchase on the cards. Not much help but hope it works for you

Just thought I would update here with the problem... when setting up gift certificates and using attributes to price them there is NO WAY to get the weight to work out as 0... apparently this is a known BUG that I had to read about on other sites. I had to make a separate product for each amount and now it works fine.

Thumbs up Re: Gift Certificate/Shipping weight issue

    Thanks for sharing.

That'll be why the osC example ones are separate products for each denomination.

would have been good to know when I was banging my head on the desk even after spending $30 bucks on a manual that has nothing in it about this known issue in it. Has anyone considered updating that thing with some useful information?

The manual is Michael's domain. The wiki is the most up-to-date reference and is being constantly updated (mostly thanks to PGM). It can also be downloaded to read offline.

See bottom of wiki - as informed by you

Anybody know if this gift contrib will work with OSC 2.2 RC2a? I follow this site to see the different things being done and try to, when I can, help out as well. Not a programmer by any means, just simple logic and hours of achieved/failed installs.

I have tried CCGV contrib under OSC contrib site but it has major issues with combining with QT Pro and PWA. QT Pro in itself has many flaws and really doesn't work well with tracking sizes.

If anyone has suggestions on what is a good mix to be able to track different sizes, allow Purchase Without Accout and any type of Gift Certificate/Voucher, I would greatly appreciate and idea's...

    Thanks
