Default Problem with Gift Voucher Redemption

I am trying to get the Gift Voucher function operating and have had some success, but I have come up against an error message I cannot trace the root cause. I've searched through the forum archives and have found some discussions, but none that helps me identify the cause.

I have been able to activate the Gift Voucher function and create both Gift Vouchers (as catalog items) and Coupons. And I have been able to have a "customer" email a purchased Gift Voucher to a third party and I have been able to have the admin mail out Gift Vouchers - and the mail does get sent and arrive ok, BUT - I get the following error message atop the successs page:

Warning: mysql_insert_id(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /mnt/w0300/d00/s26/b0146f70/www/DOMAINNAME/catalog/includes/functions/database.php on line 114

The resulting mailed Gift Certificate does actually work in the shopping cart after entering the coupon code and using the REDEEM button. BUT - the redeem link in the email does not activate the gift voucher without entering the coupon code in the shopping cart. Instead the user is diverted to a blank page with just NAV_TITLE in the header.

So I am trying to track down both errors which may be related:
    1) Sent email error warning.
    2) Redeem link not working from email.

Any ideas where to begin looking?

    Thanks...

Had the same problem with the warning message. See the fix in the following forum thread:
SVN 2.1 - Warning message when sending Gift Certificate from Catalog

I had errors also...and I need to also get this working... the $$ has been corrected and
hopefully today I will get further and try to make one work. All was fine in RC3, but I upgraded and been backwards since...but hopefully we can get this back in order.

Thank you, srq - the information in the link you provided did indeed solve the immediate issue of the email warning message. By removing the "$$link" variable, not only does the warning message not get generated, but the gift vouchers are now correctly being entered into the que lists.

    However, several problems continue:

    1) The link in the email that gets sent is not working properly. Although when you enter the Voucher Code provided in the email in the Redeem box in the Shopping Cart, the voucher is properly identified and included in the Order Total. But when the email redeem link is clicked, the customer is first sent to an account log-in screen and after login is sent to a blank page with only the following information listed:

    HEADING_TITLE
    TEXT_INFORMATION
    TEXT_INVALID_GV
    Continue Button

So clearly something is not linking properly - even though the voucher code itself is properly recognized if manually coded into the box on the Payment Page of the Check Out process.

    2) If the Gift Voucher is used in the Order Total, when the remaining amount to pay is sent to PayPal Standard for payment, PayPal returns the following error page:

"RETURN TO MERCHANT - The link you have used to enter the PayPal system contains an incorrectly formatted item amount."

This PayPal error message does NOT appear when a regular payment request is made i.e. when a gift voucher is not part of the order. With no Gift Voucher, the PayPal payment processes properly.

    3) If the Gift Voucher Balance has a value higher than the order total, although the Order Total properly reflects a $0.00 due on the Confirm page, when the Confirm button is pressed it loops back to the Payment Method page with a RED error message at the top of the page indicating that a method of payment must be selected - even if a payment method and the Gift Voucher has already been selected with a $0.00 balance due.

Any ideas how I can solve each of these problems with gift certificates?

    Thanks... GEORGE

George, as for #1, had you already created a product and attached it to it? I had the same printout as you, same error...reported it...haven't heard anything back..

I was told, all was fine... (just poking now)
