What is the advantage of OSC Max over Zen Cart or others?

I'm asking because even though it will take me many many hours of work to switch over, I really would like to have a functional website at some point. Should I keep beating my head against many walls or just switch software hoping that the entire design and inventory re-do will result in an actual functioning shop? I really don't want to have to do this, and I do like the parts of OSC max that are working, but the parts that aren't working are critical. If I'm just going to run into similar problems with Zencart or others, then maybe I should keep trying here.

That's actually the article that led me to OSC Max in the first place. It's a really good article, but I was hoping to get other input as well.

Mainly, the paypal modules - either of them. Pretty much anything else I can work around, but since I can't get those modules to work, i'm pretty out of luck as far as a working website. I'm just about ready to wipe my server and start from scratch to see if I inadvertently messed something up

I have never had a problem with any of the paypal modules, but the one included in osCMax (paypal ipn) may be a bit outdated. You could update it to the most current version from addons.oscommerce.com.

What are the specific issues with paypal modules that you are having?

Are you sure that you have not fiddled with any of the code in the PayPal modules ... ?

One thing to note, if your server has register globals off, I believe the paypal IPN module needs globals turned on for it to work. On some servers that is set in the paypal ipn directory via .htaccess, others via a custom php.ini file in the paypal ipn directory:
/catalog/ext/modules/payment/paypal_ipn

Micheal, my registered globals are OFF - and unfortunately I don't have control over this part of my server, because it's at HostPapa. Does that mean I basically have no chance of getting Paypal to work?

You will not be able to use the paypal ipn module, but should be able to use paypal website payment standard. Both seem to work just fine for me on The osCMax Store :, so post the exact problem you are having.

Paypal website payments standard goes through to paypal alright, but then it does not redirect back to the checkout_success.php page, instead it goes back to the shopping cart, which does not empty or take the items out of inventory.

The IPN software gives me a whole host of error messages and does not get to paypal at all. I posted the error messages in the other thread, but I'll post them here too in a moment..

Tonight I will delete and re install all my paypal module pieces, and see if that helps. I have loaded my back up files from before I was messing with Paypal, and I get the same errors, so I don't think it is anything I created. I didn't change any of the paypal code except when trying different fixes talked about here after the standard file didn't work.
