    Default E-Mail Confirmations

    My shopping cart is coming along nicely, but have run into a problem with e-mail confirmations.

    I am using the PayPal Standard payment module and the payment confirmation is getting to the customers nicely, but the shopping cart does not appear to be sending the order details confirmation to the customer. I even set the "Send Extra Order Emails To" to include another email - and nothing comes through here either.

    When I was testing the site, order emails were being sent ok. Now that I've gone live the emails have stopped.

    The MyStore config includes an E-Mail Address and the E-Mail Options config is set up as:
    Transport = sendmail
    Linefeeds = LF
    HTML = true (I also tested this as false)
    DNS Verify = false
    Send E-Mails = true

    I have tested sending an e-mail using the Send Email in the Tools module to the same addresses, and these e-mails are being sent successfully. And customers area able to send emails from the "Contactc Us" link. So the sendmail process appears to be working, but the order confirmations are not coming through.

    Any idea what I have set incorrectly or where I need to look for an answer or which php file I need to look at to check for or edit the right code?

    Thanks... George

    I am stumped! I'm still having trouble with e-mail confirmations. I hope someone can point me in the right direction. I have searched the forum posts and the instructions, but nothing seems to fix the problem. I have been working on this problem for weeks...

    I believe the mail delivery system itself is working, because some emails do get through, except for the automatic order notification to the customer and to the shop owner when a new order is placed.

    My osCmax e-mail setup is detailed in my prior post. I have confirmed that e-mails can be sent through this setup, because I can manually use the Status Change page to "Notify Customer" and these e-mail notifications get through just fine.

    I can also manually send an order confirmation to a customer using the "New Order email" button on the Order Edit screen.

    But when a customer first places an order, the order confirmation does not automatically get sent even though "Send emails" is set to "true" in the configuration.

    In looking at the order history, I get red "X's" in the "Customer Notified" field, except where I have manually sent a message.

    I am using PayPal Standard as the payment processor and PayPal is receiving order notifications ok, it takes payment, and then responds back to the shopping cart changing the order status accordingly. And PayPal is sending out the payment notification... it's just that osCmax is not automatically sending out the order details confirmation.

    I am really stumped... any ideas.

    Thanks...
    GEORGE

    IIRC it has something to do with the version of the Paypal module. The same thing happens to me, but I gave up trying to fix it. A few people gave suggestions on here before but none of them worked for me.

    This is usually due to a mis-configuration of either the paypal module or the paypal account or both. I have used both paypal WPS and paypal IPN (both included in osCMax) with no problems whatsoever on our production shop and many others.

    I can confirm unpredictable lack of emails when using PayPal WPS.
    A code restructure would be beneficial, IMO. Should a confirmation of sale not be sent PRIOR to any payment processing, thus providing advance notice of any payment problems?

    Or put another way: An attempted sale happens regardless of payment method (which is of little consequence). At that stage a notification should be sent, with payment processing occurring after that. More logical?

    Or have I picked up on this wrong (possible)?

    ridexbuilder:

    If I understand your last post correctly, I think I agree that a customer should get an Order Confirmation separate from the payment and/or shipping confirmations.

    I have been playing with the various options available and so far it does not appear to matter whether PayPal "Authorize" or "Sale" methods are used regarding the purchase email confirmation. PayPal itself appears to be making the payment confirmation just fine.

    I did follow the instruction from the thread provided by Michael to create the proper links between PayPal and the shopping cart, and it appears (based on what the shopping cart lists for the customers - but not confirmed yet) that order confirmation emails are now being generated.

    But again, to your point, I think these order confirmations should have an option to be sent regardless of payment success, especially since using the payment authorization method, payment happens upon shipment... sometimes long (maybe a day or two to get an order together) after an order confirmation should have been sent. Any payment processing problems could be handled separately.

    Any ideas on how to get the order confirmation email sent immediately after a customer places an order - even if the payment is only Authorized in PayPal and processed/captured at a later date?

    Thanks...

    Arrow Re: E-Mail Confirmations

    Sidetracked on other things, so not looked into it, though I think a fundamental change to order processing might be required.

    I was actually talking about the shop owner being informed of the sale, regardless of the payment being successful or not. Improves customer relations, if able to monitor a sale that hasn't completed due to a payment issue, or if the payment processor fails to return an email confirmation (for whatever reason).

    Would be good to get other people on-board with this one.
