OK, this has gone past the critical stage for me. My products are customized and so I really must have the functionality of OTF for my site! Christmas shopping season is almost here and I am running out of time. There have been several previous posts in this thread to try to get people to contribute to the effort. Some including me have donated to the cause but still no OTF.

So I am going to up the ante! If I am able to get OTF functions on my site by 2100 hours 14 November 2009 I will donate three serious investor buttons on 15 November 2009. Anybody care to match me?

    jpf are you there?

    Norman

By the way jpf: none of your links in your posts are working. they all require a username/password.

    Norman,

I do not have the time to help with the coding of this right now with all the other 2.1 development going on, but I what I have done in the past, when OTF was absolutely needed was to simply install OTF over the QTPro code (reverting the sections to standard osCommerce that conflicted with the OTF install). It breaks QTpro, but the cart works and you get your options.

That would be the quick and dirty option for you...

I was tempted to have a crack at this install a while ago - despite the fact that it something I do not need! - but I didn't want to replicate work jpf had done ... and I am still hoping that jpf will deliver (maybe not in time for the 15th deadline ...) especially since people have donated toward his work ... including myself.

I can't believe that the integration is beyond the combined knowledge of this board - I am happy to help where I can ...

Does anyone (michael?) know which is the exact module that can be installed with osCMax? I would be willing to have a proper look through the code and try to work out how to install into osCMAX without breaking the QTPro install, if possible.

Although, I suspect that it may be beyond my osCMax/pHp knowledge ...

    Regards,
    pgmarshall

    Michael,

I'm sorry. I did not mean to burden you with this problem. I thought jpf had said he was within 4-6 hours of integrating OTF and QTPro. I thought the donate buttons above were for him. I was just trying to do my part to move this along since so many of us need it.

As far as your suggestion to "simply install OTF over the QTPro code (reverting the sections to standard osCommerce that conflicted with the OTF install). It breaks QTpro, but the cart works and you get your options." You gave me the same answer in Text Box Option

As I have posted before, I am just a one man retail shop trying to expand. I am not a programmer in any language. I am no more qualified to do that than I am qualified to fly the space shuttle. I am not even sure I am qualified to select an e-commerce solution at this point. Heck, I can not even seem to read the posts in this thread correctly without misunderstanding that jpf was working on the solution to my (and others) problem but needed some funding.

Please excuse the rambling post but I have spent way too much time on this project with absolutely no return on investment. May be time to move on and spend my time and money on some other solution (maybe some php programming classes at the community college).

I really need to migrate a CRE site and reluctantly have done most of the work in Zen but would much prefer to stick with 'Max. All due to the lack of OTF. It seems pointless to break QTPro, if there's a solution, IMO.

I also have an osC site on the verge of going live with 'Max (PayPal issues notwithstanding). It has a requirement for text input for customised clothing - once again, prime use for OTF.

    pgmarshall,

Thanks for all the help over the last few months but I have a self imposed deadline for having this resolved for my site (or at least some hope that a solution is forth coming). Time to start looking for a workable solution that a nonprogrammer can implement.

    ridexbuilder,

Thanks to you also. Please see my comments to pgmarshall. I really do appreciate both of you. I really thought jpf was telling us he was willing/able to do this if only someone would pay for it. I thought that was what I was doing when Michael stepped in and again told me to just hack OTF over QTpro. Since I so badly misread jpf's posts and who the donate buttons were for ....

    Thanks again,

    Norman

    Norman,

The donate buttons within this thread are for jpf himself ...

Unfortunately, due to the one way nature of a bulletin board we can not tell what has happened to jpf - but as a regular poster and contributor to this community I am sure that he will not have "done a runner" with a few small donations for a contribution install. He has done so much for osCMax for nothing that I find this impossible to believe.

However, this does not solve our conundrum of how to get OTF installed into osCMax with QTPro working. I am no expert at this, having only got into this 4 ish months ago with no php knowledge at all and only a bit of SQL under my belt, but I am willing to have a crack at an install on my WAMP server if someone would let me know which version to install - ie. someone who has got this working previously ...

The other option is to post your request on the "Find a Programmer" type websites ... you may well find a willing coder do the work for 3 x Serious Contributions ...

Otherwise, I will have a go at the Option Type Feature v2 mentioned previously in this thread.

I suspect that it is beyond my capabilities ...

    Regards,
    pgmarshall

I can't/won't say anything much at this time but please give JPF a little bit longer...

Never, NEver NEVer did I mean to imply that jpf had "done a runner"! He probably has some visible means of support (job? business?) and maybe a visible means of spending the results of the above (wife, kids). I understand those things require time that can not be spent solving my petty problem. It is just frustration with osCommerce/osCMax in general since I have spent hundreds of hours over the last 4 years and still do not have a working site. It has been one thing after another that I have to learn from scratch when it seems to me that a properly thought out and planned software platform would not have a module that prohibits so many other needed options. My post was supposed to let jpf know that if he finds the time to fix this issue I would do my part in rewarding him for his effort. I did not mean to stir up a hornet's nest. I thought about contacting him off the board at his web site but it is having its own problems requiring username and password.

Again, I do not want anyone to think that I am saying jpf took my two cups of black coffee donation and retired.

    Norman
