Admin - Customer - Company name field missing?

the company name field is missing when i go to add a new customer
i cannot see this in the database with the rest of the customer details but in some accounts it is pulling the information from somewhere and displaying it on the customers page...

so my 2 questions are:

where does the company name information live in the database

&

how can i display the input field for the company name

Try Customer Details in the Configuration section of your admin panel, it can be set to true or false. I think that is the right place to start anyway...
