Default RC2 design in RC3 engine compatibles ?

    Hello,

I have questions about the integration of a design into OscMAX 2.0 RC3.

I am actually testing OscMAX RC3 with the integrated designs.
I have seen that the OscMAX store sells templates RC2 compatible (and not RC3 or maybe I've not seen all).

Are RC2 templates fully compatible with the RC3 engine ?
I also visited the OsCommerce MS2.2 templates and it's said theses templates are fully compatibles with the OscMAX engine.
Does it mean that whatever template we buy from an OscMAX or an OsCommerce MS2.2, it will be fully integrated in OscMAX V2.0 RC3 ?
If an OsCommerce MS2.2 template works for OscMAX, what are the step by step changes to make or where can I find the doc, at OsDOCX ?

Also, I'd like to know how BTS works; for instance, I'm not able to change any design at all.
Where can I find step by step information to integrate design through BTS ?

Is it better to integrate design through BTS (I feel it's made for this job) or manually or other way ?

Can we add other contributions like for example 'Must Agree Terms' or 'Featured Products' ... in the OscMAX without problems ?

I need a little helping for that part from you to begin, and I'm sure I'll get it right afterwards.

    Thanks for your response

    Patrick

Oscmax RC2 and RC3 are basically the same. For modifying contribs and Ms2.2
templates working with BTS you may want to glance at this. osCommerce Documentation by OSCdox :: osCommerce and osCMax installation and users manual, discussion forums (phpWiki)

There is ABSOLUTELY no changes in the templates directory for RC2 to RC3. As long as all the (non-image) files from your "template" are installed into the template sub directory - you will have no problem.

Hello and thanks for your answers.

I didn't have a clear response from you about the osCommerce MS2.2 templates we can find at templatemonster.com or anywhere else.

I also visited the OsCommerce MS2.2 templates and it's said theses templates are fully compatibles with the OscMAX engine.

    Thanks again

I do not believe Oscommerce MS2.2 would be just a drop in template for Oscmax but I hear the changes are not that bad. I had read it in the forums before but can not find that post right now. I wish I could tell you the changes but I have not done this yet myself. If I can find the time(which is limited) I will see if I can locate the changes post and put one on my local machine. I tend to learn by doing and comparing differences. This would be a good topic for the Wiki.

    Thanks very much bkpie,

I'm not asking for a simple 'drop' of the osCommerce MS2.2 template, of course, it's always some work, but my question is based upon the fact that in the osCommerce MS2.2 store, it's said the following thing :
"These skins meet osCMax.com's quality standards, are 100% osCommerce compatible. If you are planning on running a stock installation of osCommerce, and want to have a professionally designed site for low cost, these templates are ideal. ... "

The question, for me, is still, is it 100% compatible with the engine oscMAX or with the template design of oscMAX ?

If I can find well-suited design templates for my market, of course I will prefer immediatly an osMAX template but if I don't find one, my wish was to buy an osCommerce MS2.2 design template, and in this case, are the modifications minor or major ?

    Thanks again

    Patrick

Patrick, the page you quoted does not mention osCMax at all, as the templates are not 100% osCMax compatible. They are 100% osCommerce 2.2 MS2 compatible.

These skins meet osCMax.com's quality standards, are 100% osCommerce compatible. If you are planning on running a stock installation of osCommerce, and want to have a professionally designed site for low cost, these templates are ideal.
Note that it says 100% osCommerce compatible not 100% osCMax compatible. In the following sentence it states, If you are planning on running a stock installation of osCommerce, which osCMax most definitely is not.

The osCommerce templates are for osCommerce MS2 and we do not recommend using them in osCMax unless you are an expert in html, php and BTS (osCMax template system). Intimate knowledge of all three are required for converting templates from osCommerce to osCMax without causing a brain aneurysm.

If you have some extra hours available to invest, the templates are convertible, but again, I do not recommend it. The extra time you spend will effectively double or triple the cost of the template (or more).

The modifications are extensive. You will need to convert every file in the osCommerce template, stripping the html content from the php files, then creating new tpl.php files.

    Michael,

I must say I made a misundertanding between the quality design of the template and the engine itself.

Can you tell me how often new templates (oscMAX for example) are beeing sold ?

Thank you Michael to clear this point for me. Great support !

People purchase templates daily and have been very satisfied with the quality and support. There is a thread that discusses this. Do a search on templates and you should find it.

Whew.. Glad Michael responded. I guess the post I read a while back about it not being too hard was not in fact true. I was planning on trying to convert one. Sounds to time consuming. I already have had to strip html for some contributions. Just ported 4 more contributions for oscmax and hope to have them packaged on here in a couple weeks time permiting.
