Product post adding extra character to post

Hi, I am running oscmax 2.0 RC3. I done a fresh reinstall and got some things working that weren't before but I have the following problem:

1. When I list a product manual or ez populate, and the product has ' or " any where in the title or description it adds an extra ' or " but when I use \ to escape it; it still shows \' or \" plus the extra ' or " looking like \' ' or \" " .
Is there a way to fix this and what would cause it?

Server info:
Linux w/ Apache 1.3.37
MySQL 5.0.27-standard-log
PHP Version 5.1.6

Check your settings in the easypopulate.php file.

Try changing this:
