Default Stock not adjusting on purchase

I think I have mentioned this already some time ag with no respnse, so here goes again.

OSCMAX with various mods, has been working in every way for several months with the exception of Stock updates.

Using paypal ipn module (the one recommended by OSCMAX)

It seems that some orders, becoming more frequent, when placed, and paid for at paypal, the stock does not update and the client is finding that if she does not manually check the stock level on every item being sold she ends up having to give out refunds

I had read a thread on the oscommerce site talking about this in regards the paypal ipn module, can anyone shed any light on this, has anyone come accross the same issue,

I am in desperate need of a fix for this and do not know where to start since it works most of the tme.

I don't have a fix (I don't use Paypal) but have some questions.

Is there anything common about the orders which do not work? Do the products have attributes? Single items only, multiple items only, zero postage items? Coupons or vouchers applied?

The only thing I have seen like this is where an error caused users to return to an earlier checkout page, rather than checkout success - but this occurred for every transaction! You are sure that the Paypal payment is succesful are you?

Sadly, there is nothihng common about it. I have tried replicating it and am not able to do so, except in the case of paying on paypal and closing down the browser, hence it has to be something in the paypal related scripting of oscmax.

The issue is intermitent, and the customer can have 50 orders in a single day and 5 of them (maybe more mabe less) can not update the stock. I can then go and order the exact same items that were not updated and they update.

There is no ryme or reasono for it. I am having to consider a move to Zencart wich I have been told does not suffer the same issues.

I have read on the osc forum that others have had similar issues when using paypal ipn.

Default Figured it out

ok this is so weird, for months everything worked fine, 95% of customers pay using paypal on the site and stock was changed everytime.

Then it started t become an intermitent issue where stock was not updated, and I assumed it was to do with them not returning to the store after paypal (closing the window)

Now its constant, checked the clients paypal account and IPN is now off.

How on earth is it pssible for it to work for ages then suddenly for it to go off. The client is not one that fiddles, what she does not know or understand she asks me about or simply ignores.

Default RE: Figured it out

Somebody changed the setting. It is that simple. Either paypal changed something in their interface that set it to the default off position, or somebody else manually turned it off.

Regardless, the order to check things is this:

1. Check the paypal module settings in oscmax. If not changed, go to step 2.
2. Check the paypal settings at Paypal.com. If not changed go to step 3
3. Check osCMax paypal php files. If not changed go to step 4
4. Thow your computer out the window...

I have the same error, and that with a couple of other payment modules, in this case swedish modules - Samport VISA and COD module... The error is consistent, stock does not adjust after each purchase.
