Volume discounts

I saw the question posed last year..

Has anyone been able to get any sort of volume discounts working? especially with the customer groups?

I'd like to be able to say that if you buy x number of a particular product, you get y% discount if you're in group a, if you're in group b, you get z% discount based on quantity.

This is pretty important for us.
