Default Can't use descriptions with WYSIWYG editor off

I've tried using the FCK WYSIWYG editor, but don't really care too much for it. Now that I want to shut it off though, the non-WYSIWYG edit screens don't submit any information, i.e. I can't turn it off and still have a functioning product editor. Please assist.
