Can't seem to add images to main page with editor

Am I missing something? I can't seem to get the editor to add images to the mainpage of my site.
If i click on the insert image image icon it pops up a new page that says image properties.
If I click on the browse server button a new page pops up called Resource Browser which has an empty folder with a create folder option and an upload file in this folder option. If I browse to the image on my computer then hit upload it just hangs there and nothing happens.
I even tried using the source code button and adding the img src tag into the html but I must have messed up the syntax because the image didn't show up that way either.
I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Check to see that the correct path is image/yourpix.gif
