coupon discount voucher by brand?

One of my clients is begging me to figure out how to make a discount coupon code that is by "brand". She wants to select 1 or more brands to have a % off sale. Is this possible? Is there a mod out there that already does this? I've searched high and low and can't find anything..

Hi there,

I assume you are talking about discount by manufacturer? If so, then you are in luck I have just put in Specials by Category (into v2.5) which will allow you to easily do this.

Just open this module and select the manufacturer you want - enter the discount - click update all - you are done.

aw geeze PG.. I JUST upgraded this one to 2.0.25 now you are going to MAKE me upgrade again... any chance I can get this working in 2.0.25???? hints? point me in the direction to start poking???

As soon as I get it put in I will let you know, but it looks like this is the same mod I already installed and works fantastic but without the option to choose by brand/manufacturer

aww.. I was so excited that I didnt really read or think.. I can already do this with the version I have installed of specials by category. The issue is with this, in this particular store, is some of the brands they stock have upwards of 6-900 items. This slows the store down a lot when you put that many products on sale.. What I was really looking for is a means to create a discount coupon voucher code by manufacturer (or brand).. Right now I can only choose products and or categories which also doesnt work for this store when you want to put item type A on sale every brand has that type of item and certain brands cant be discounted by cintract. So now to pick through and pick the product type A of only Brand XYZ & ABC from 30+/- brands becomes a royal pain..

Now what do you have for me oh great one???

Hmmm. I don't remember seeing a discount by manufacturer ... And I am going to assume that you have not got all the products in a category by brand. (therefore the categories discount won't work).

Why does having lots of specials slow the store down? Which bits runs slowly?

I don't have a solution other than to set the admin list length to 900 run the specials by category ... set your discount ... click submit ... click update all ... and add 900 specials to your store. You can unset them using the same methodology by entering 0 in the discount box. I don't see this as being a slow process but I was unaware that having lots of specials slows things down.
