    Default SSI Menu Template

    Hi,

I have taken over the management of an osCmax based site that has several static html pages for SEO reasons. These pages have an vertical HTML menu linking to the store categories. I have modified some of the category names to try and optimise the tags for SEO and each time I make a change I have to manually edit all of the links in the HTML Menu of the static pages. In order to cut down on the admin I have just tested splitting the menu block to a separate html page and inserting it via SSI. This works.

To make this even easier I thought that if I could make a modified version the main index.php file or the main template to only show the category menu. I could then include this file via SSI and any changes would automatically be included in the static page. However, after having a look at index.php, I think I would be better creating a template page, but how would I be able to call the modified template page, without it effecting the normal templates?

If you take a look at the pgm template in v2.0.25 you should find a suckerfish menu ... nothing to stop you from having the menu in the main template ... then simply using SSI to add to the static html pages.

v2.5 has information pages unlimited which could allow you to move all these inside the store templates.

Sorry, I am confused, how would I be able to extract only the menu portion of the page to allow it te be inserted via SSI into another page?

Maybe I have misunderstood what you are after but there should be nothing to stop you only putting the menu inside the SSI. Then you can call this into any page you choose - store or static html (php).

If you look at the admin side of v2.5 this is exactly what we have done ... suckerfish menu wrapped inside an include.
