    Default Discount Coupons

    Hi All,

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

I am testing the coupon discount function and I wonder can a user/buyer use a few coupons at a time?

I am thinking to offer a few discount coupons to customers for various categories of products. (similar to those you get from Tesco - £5 off when you buy X, £2 off when you buy Y)

I wonder can the buyer use a few coupons at checkout? Will this work? I am using 2.0.25.

IF not, any pointers, suggestions or alternate ways of making this work.

    Cheers
    Aston

No you can only use one discount coupon at the checkout process.

This is different functionality to discount coupons and is new in v2.5 and is called Quantity Price Breaks Per Products which allows you to tier the pricing - eg. £5 each for 2, £4 each for 3, £3 each for 4, etc.

We have also installed Discount Categories - read this for an explanation. But basically this is a discount applied to groups of products - if you buy 3 products from this group get 10% off ...

However - this is new code and I have not seen much testing of it yet ... I would suggest downloading the Beta v2 and loading on WAMP server on your local machine and giving it a go ... instructions in the wiki.

    Regards,

    Hi PGMarshall,

Thanks for the info, I will keep this for my future upgrade.

Apologise that I didn't explain clearly, what I am trying to do at present is to promote/stimulate more sales from less active customers on certain categories/products and at the same time maintaining the normal price to other customers.

I am considering to issue discount coupons to customers, similar to those you get from Tesco - £2 off when you buy magazine, £5 off when you buy baby clothing, £3 off when you buy apricot cheese, etc,etc.... those with coupons have special discounts, those not pay the normal price. I hope this make sence.

From your respond above only one discount coupon can be used at the checkout process, therefore customers will not able to use all coupons at one go. Is there a way round this? Is there something that can be altered to the checkout to accept more than 1 coupon?

    Cheers
    Aston

I could be wrong, but I think what you mean is not coupons, but you want customers to buy vouchers? And yes you can do that with oscmax. and you can set them as products under your categories and set them to any price you want.

I am pretty sure that you can only apply one coupon per order - and you don't want your customers to have to check out several times to use your promotion. However, there is a very neat solution!

osCmax has Seperate Pricing Per Customer (SPPC) which means that you could set up a new customer group called "Low Activity Clients" and then simply setup special offers as per normal but only for this group ... this would mean that when they log in they will see the discounts you are offering but everyone else will not. You will obviously need to manage the list carefully - once a customer has reordered you will need to remember to switch them back into the "Retail" customer group again.

    PGM;

Actually, that's a great business process that osCmax supports. I had never thought about using customer groups that way.
