It depends. If you have no custom mods added, yes it will be fairly easy. If you have a lot of custom mods, no it won't be easy. The difficulty level will also depend on your skills.

If you have made a large number of mods to the version of osCmax you are currently running, then YES. It will be a major difficulty moving to the new version.

If you have made few changes from the stock osCmax, then NO, it will not be a hard upgrade.

Thus YES and NO are both correct answers because it "depends".

My suggestion.

1) List all the mods you have made to your store
2) Compare them to the mods in the core.
3) Determine if the mod in the core will meet your needs, or if you need to port the mod from your current store to your new store
4) Start making the mods you need to the new store in a test environment
5) Move the database over piece by piece to the new mod'd store recording what the SQL command were that you used to transfer the structures
6) When you are comfortable that you have everything working in the new store (testing done):
a) close the store (redirect to an "updating store page")
b) backup EVERYTHING
c) run the database program you created in (5)
d) re-open the new store.

I have some heavily mod'd stores for clients (and myself), so I am estimating about three weeks for the new "base store" to be created and then two days of transfer/test and finally release.

well the most important mod for me is my template/look and feel.

the other things i require are: google checkout, feed machine, shipping estimator, and batch-print-center. these are all in the 2.5 build, right?

i sent to the 2.5 developers a copy of a bug free batch-print-center, since the original mod had many bugs, but was it included in the current 2.5 beta?
(i can also re-send it if you still want it.)

and also, how sweet will the seo capabilities of 2.5 be?
