Unhappy Vs2.5 beta - RMA Return Module help!

    Hi all,

I'm using 2.5 Beta on a live stoee.
I just found out that there is no RMA / return moule included in vs2.5 (I thought it was going toi be included?)
anyhow, I see that OScommerce has a version, now vs2.6 here:
    osCommerce: RMA Returns system

I also see an older version ported to OsCMax, vs2.5, but older:
RMA Returns system - osCMax - osCommerce Maximized

so, question, can i use the vs2.6 ? anyone out there used this with osCMax successfully ?
Am i missign somethign here ? how else does everyone administer refunds? I suppose I set up shipping, wait for the return goods, then refund the customer on authorize.net vertual terminal the otiginal invoice less shipping less restock fee ?
do i change the original order in oscmax in any way ? or create a new negative totoal new order to cope with the refund ? or just install the RMA module ?

    HELP ? Quick !

RMA Returns can be easily handled using the comments functionality along with the Canned Comments and a couple of new Order Statuses.

I would set up - Return Requested, Restocking, Refunded in the Order Status table.

Create some standard text in Canned Comments to add when you set these statuses.

Then handle the returns using your payment modules. Restock the returned goods. You can even go in and edit the order if you got a partial return.

RMA is overkill in my opinon. It tries to automate bit I wouldn't want automating - namely moving the money.

    Regards,
    Thanks, wil do.
I tried integrating the RMA module, but after getting it 70% working, decided to rip it out.
Way too many changes to the menu system in vs2.5 to get that old oscommerce code working.
So... am going wth your advice, thanks

PGM is right, the RMA modules are generally overkill.

Part of the problem is are YOU generating the RMA number or is a drop house (dropshipper or distributor)? Thus, anything that tries to generate a generic RMA routine just has too many variable options to be coded since each business process is slightly different.

On the other hand, status, properly used, provides an excellent way to manage RMA's.

Another solution I have been looking at is the trellis helpdesk for RMA support.
