Default adding offline customers to database

    Hi,

I searched but couldn't find this, so I'm thinking I missed it somewhere.

Is there an easy way to add offline customer email addresses to the "customers" database without downloading, entering, then uploading the file? I'd like to keep all customers in one place, but there is no need for all of the other customer information for the offline customers to be in the database.

    Any help appreciated.

I don't really understand the question. You have to enter the data into your db somehow, so no, there is no way to get it into your database without entering it. Could you be more specific about what you want to do here? Are you just trying to create a mailing list?

    Hi,

The email addresses are in a spreadsheet, and I'd like to be able to upload them without having to enter them one at a time.

So you want to mass enter customer records? I don't know of any mods to do that. You would either need to create something or import your CSV spreadsheet directly into your customers/addressbook tables.

Thanks - I tried that and they didn't import correctly at all. Seems that they realy need to be uploaded as an sql which is a pain to do. I am looking into programs that will convert csv to sql right now.

yup a csv spreadsheet is the way to go. But if you just want to send newsletters out this mass list and not have them as customers just yet, then you may want to use mailchimp for that. Its great for mass uploading and e-mailing of potential customers.

For some reason the csv file didn't upload properly. I must not have had the correct fields. I will be getting mailchimp so that both online and offline customers can be emailed. Also, emailing from oscmax goes through our host which has certain restrictions.

    Thanks

    Hold up bluezdaze

You use mailchimp to market to your "potential" customer base. People who are not customers yet. You are "inviting" them to be customers at your store through mailchimps software. But it may not help you if your customers are "offline" - (you mean from normatively being on the internet and checking emails??) Then if so, then its probably a bad idea.

Like michael said, there is no way to upload a bulk load of new customers into your oscmax store at one time. You will have to do it manually one by one.

In my opinion, you have to "invite" people to be your customers and let them sign up themselves. It's safer that way too. You don't want people coming back at you questioning your motives on putting their information into your store when they could of done it themselves.
Also, I looked at mailchimp and with an addon, it can integrate with oscmax to get info on people who register, buy, etc. Then they can be put in segments like those who purchased, registered but didn't purchase, just signed up for the newsletter, and more.
