ideas on newsletter

has anyone come across any opportunities in knowing how to send newsletters out to certain groups of people from the admin? I installed simple newsletter for visitors but theres no option to just email these site visitors, asking them to opt-in. So my goal is to find out how to create 2 mailing list.

I am assuming that the "module:" drop-down box in admin->news manager page is where the listing of different groups will be defined? Does that sound right?
